Unwelcome water and mositure in the home could be a result of some of the following:
- Roof leaks due to wind or storm damaged shingles, limbs, old flashing around chimneys or stopped up gutters
- Plumbing leaks due to washer hoses, supply lines for sinks, toilets, dishwasher, icemaker, water heater, sink or tub overflows
- HVAC condensate pan leak or plugged drain line
Your primary risk is mold. Your secondary risk is rot. Correcting a water damage correctly is critical to the prevention of fungal growth which is the main reason we dry structures. Structure is an important word here. Extraction, fans and dehumidifiers are all well and good and drying the carpet and pad is important. But understanding the possible effects of water on structural components and how those components fit into the larger building system must be addressed on all water damages. It’s not the known and visible water that you have to worry about, it’s the hidden moisture that’ll get you in trouble.
We never leave anything to chance. We always check the source, the adjacent walls, floors, trim, etc, then continue past those areas to determine the extent of moisture intrusion. This might be the crawl space, the attic, wall cavities, etc. Once we’ve defined the affected areas we install our equipment to accomplish the fastest results. Our training allows us to apply the standard of care in its most current understanding.
